Glow in The Dark

Fabulous turnout last night at The glow run/walk. We were joined by fellow runners and walkers from Ormsary jogscotland, Islay jogscotland, Mid Argyll jogscotland and members of the local community. All routes were slightly soggy underfoot but the skies were clear and enthusiasm strong. Whilst the runners circumnavigated the Royal Burgh the walkers did a fantastic job on their two mile walk raising spirits and collecting donations for THe Mid Argyll Chemotherapy Unit. I am so grateful to everyone who helped from the participants with their monetary and culinary donations  (if you ask for cake in Argyll...you get cake!!) to the leaders, sweepers and those who stayed behind to ready the soup and cakes. Special thanks to Jacs and Inveraray primary for allowing us the use of the school dining hall and kitchen. See you all Next Year!!

Tin Farm 5

A great day on Sunday at local cross country race at Ormsary, organised to raise money for local causes...always wet, always muddy and always fun! This year was no exception with several puddles deep enough to warrant a scene in the Vicar of Dibley but hey once you are wet you are wet! The tide level meant the trek over the stones and seaweed was rewarded by a very, very small amount of firm sand amongst yet more stones. The inveraray jogscotties were thinner on the ground this year but I think our yellow T shirts held their own against the more plentiful Campbeltown blue ones. Toby put in a fabulous run incorporating a small fall at the top of the hill when checking to see just where the opposition were, he held the lead the whole way round, only threatened slightly at the end by eventual second place winner from the blue shirt brigade. Father and daughter team Freya and Garret had a good run too on Freya's first time in this event and she stormed home through the mud and flying down those hills which defeated Mum Fiona somewhat behind. As always Rosie's determination came to the fore and she finished in good time and smiling (eventually..) Well done all.

Results
Toby 34.34 1st in category (MS) 1st overall
Garret 45.24 14th (Mv) 33 o/a (pacing Freya)
Freya 45.24 1st (FJ) 34 o/a
Fee 48.21 6th (FV) 45 o/a

What dedication last night! The first really cold winters night and we had a fabulous turnout! Hardcore runners one and all. Ailish and Karen flew the flag for the 6pm group with a mile or so of jog and spinets. Time to test the Glow 3 mile route out for the 7pm group followed by some short sprints and agility exercises making the distance 3.89. Hope you all got dried out and warmed up quickly! Thanks for your company.

Glow in the Dark run takes part next Friday from the Primary school with cakes and soup afterwards at the School. All welcome to attend the walk or runs (3 and 4 miles) but entirely at own risk. Starting at 18.00hrs, you WILL get muddy and hand/head torches essential. Hope to see as many as possible there to raise money for the local Chemotherapy Unit in LGH.

Gotta love a good run and chat....

Great turn out tonight...the earlier group did 2.2 miles of hard graft...great to see Karen and Ailish back. Next week the earlier group will meet at 6.20 until 7pm. The 7pm group worked verrrry hard with 3.6 miles of various types of running, side stepping, sprinting and my favourite, skipping!
Remember to sign up for the Glow in The Dark run if you can....thanks for your very good company tonight, especially those who migrated from 6pm. We have T shirts to spare now that everyone who ordered one has claimed theirs so please let me know if you want one. They are subsidised by a grant so a snip at £4!

Glow in the Dark

The Blurb......."Hoping to raise some more money for the Mid Argyll Chemotherapy Unit with a Glow in The Dark run/walk around and about Inveraray. Strictly for fun we will set off in groups of fast runners/ normal mortals/ walkers. PLEASE NOTE..this is a social run with friends not a race, inveraray jogscotland members have volunteered to lead the groups out and about but it is undertaken entirely at your own risk. Afterwards there will be soup and cake at the school. The money raising bit will by donation...As this is for fun and informal please feel free to bring friends/family etc. but I shall definitely need to know numbers and choice of distance when you sign up on this page. There will be the choice of 3 miles, 4 miles and less for walkers. Head torches essential, and remember the theme is Glow in the Dark...get your thinking caps on and thank you in advance to those who will support this cause."

The Begging... Would like four leaders/sweepers (at the back) for each group...any takers? please say 4 or 3 miles if you can help. you will be controlling the pace if you are a leader. And I would like maybe four big pans of soup and/ or baking? I will do one pan of soup. Big ask I know but very good cause!

Lovely night for a run

What a lovely evening for a run last night...well, for the first group anyway before darkness descended we did 2.77 miles at a fairly brisk pace including some relay sprints. Great to see the progress building week by week. The second group enjoyed (!) some lovely flat pyramid sprints along the car park making it 4.4 miles in total and ending under a lovely starry sky.
PLEASE NOTE this week was the last formal week of the beginners group. we are now amalgamating into one group at 7pm on Thursdays. There may be one or two who feel they still would like to stay in a beginners group and so Penny has kindly offered to continue with a 6pm group until Christmas. If you have any doubts about your ability to move to the 7pm group please just get in touch with me.The training at the 7pm group is very manageable at different levels and we will accommodate all your needs....especially if you tell me them! So looking forward to seeing most of you next week at 7pm.

Club Tops.... Penny is getting sponsorship from work for outer layer tops and there are two options. the hoody left and fleece right. Please vote for preference on facebook of possible but by e mail to me if not...majority rules. Pictures below. Please indicate size...S,M,L and same for the guys. Roughly the medium seems to be 12ish and the small 10ish? Thanks very much to Penny for sorting this.

Thanks to Penny and Liz.

Thanks very much to Penny and Liz for taking the two groups on Thursday...I understand from my spies that you are both a hard act to follow!

NEXT WEEK
I shall be away next Thursday and so Penny has volunteered to take the 6pm group again so there will be a session then. If the 7pm group still wish to meet that would be great...maybe a face book conversation to be had there. Back as usual the week after....

Last weekend and next....and beyond

The Mid Argyll triathlon is now behind us with members Fee (1:28:21 3rd FV), Freya, (1:30:28 1st FJ)  Toby (1:14:56 1st MJ and fastest T2), Rosie (1:54:45) and Garret(1:23:00) taking part in a fabulous event. Next up is the Nottingham half marathon for Penny and the Inverness marathon for Kirsten. Good luck both...and photos please! Keep and eye out for the Tin Farm 5 on the 4th November...a good on road/off road race at Ormsary. Another good series is at Oban on the 7th October with a 5k,10k and 1/2 marathon. Details and links are on Facebook.

Small 6pm group in the drizzle last night...for any wanting to catch up we did 2 miles of Fartlek after a warm up. Thanks Penny, Iona and Jillian for your company.Fartlek running is fast/slow/fast/slow at a pace and increase of pace suitable to you. Total distance 2.7 miles
7pm group braved the rain and a good brisk run followed by hill work and a short burst of pyramid running. Total distance 3.8 miles. Head torches definitely required now.

I am hoping to hold another Glow in The Dark run on Friday 9th November as a fund raiser for the Chemotherapy unit at Mid Argyll Hospital. This will be two guided runs and a walk...I would like to do something afterwards and am open to suggestions...i.e. soup and cakes (anyone know how much the Nicholl Hall is to let?)...or a curry at The George ( might be an issue guaranteeing numbers?) ...or ??? Volunteers to lead/ support the group runs would be appreciated. The idea is a run not a race.....Comments please?!

Windy, Rainy but strangely fun!

Firstly a massive well done to the intrepid souls who joined in last night in what can only be described as challenging conditions! The 6pm group did intervals, some good running and got a wee introduction to winter circuits in the car park...cones were not in use due to high wind factor!! 7pm group got lucky and did Hill sprints under the trees and then a very soggy run round and home in good time.

Invitation From Kerry: three weeks of free yoga
My humble apologies for the late notice, but I do hope some of you can attend.
Please let me know as I may have to limit places depending on the interest.

I am running yoga sessions on the next 3 tuesdays, 18th, 25th sep and 2 oct.
1.30-2.45pm.   Lochgilphead Community Centre.

As before it will be a practice class as part of my teacher training course so attendees are coming along on a voluntary basis.
Bring a mat, blocks, blanket etc if you can. I only have one spare yoga mat at the moment.

For those of you who can't attend a daytime class, I do plan to run some yoga in the evening/weekends at some point but my availability prevents that at the moment.
I am doing my teacher training at Balance in Glasgow and am working hard to achieve their high standards. I have just been on a week's retreat with my trainer in Spain. It is a big commitment. The training takes a year and a quarter and I am due to finish next June.  I will need plenty of practice between now and then!
Love Kerry

 Message From Fee!!!
I am looking for jogleaders to help the group with its expansion and development especially as we are losing Toby to Stathclyde this weekend. The training is just a day next February, I have applied for funding towards the cost, it is heavily subsidised by the Council and there is no pressure to be the fastest or the fittest (clearly!!) just to have an enthusiasm for running. Having more leaders will make sure that we can respond to everyone's needs and maybe expand into different directions when we are ready. So please have a think, it will not mean that you are tied into every week especially if we can get four or five new leaders .I have three at present interested so let me know if you are too!

Intervals and Mile Trials

Thanks for a good session on Thursdays all you 6pm folk...and welcome to the group Lorna. Not so much mileage but interval sessions are great ways of building up your running stamina. Homework is to get out at least once if not twice and do some walk/run at a level you feel comfortable at. Try not to let the walk bits drag too long...set a time limit i.e. 30s or start running again as soon as your breathing allows. Remember the warm up and cool down and the STRETCHES!! Any issues please get in touch as usual.

No map for the 7pm group as Toby took this session, thanks to him for helping me out there. The Mile trial (was the winter one due to miscommunications so I have used the winter times for comparison). It appears that we have not dome this mile since February 2011.... Well done Moira for putting in such a great time at her first Trial, welcome to the Group Celene and well done for surviving (I hope) a tough session to start on. Look at those PBs! Linda's was the closest with a second better, every bit counts, Jackie's at 1 minute and 28 seconds was fantastic as is Toby's at just shy of two minutes, and Fiona just under the minute. well done all

Week Two

Beginners session
Great to see you all back and welcome to Gill and Margaret. I hope we didn't scare you off! Thanks to those who let me know they couldn't make it...if you want to keep up with the group just repeat the "homework" a couple of times and of course remember that cross training, any feedback/ issues please just get in touch with me.
You all did really well last night, everyone is progressing at their own pace. 3.63 miles in total and some core work too. Homework is to just get out and run steadily for about twenty minutes after a warm up walk putting in your walk breaks where you need to. Remember to walk to cool down and your stretches....the latter were a bit rushed last night due to my less than perfect time keeping so we will go over them in more detail next week. It is a little way off yet but we shall need head torches before too long so keep a look out for a bargain...ebay? Keep up the good work and see you next week.
