Friends of The Beatson Run

Well, runner extraordinaire Liz set off last Saturday, with fabulous support from friends, family and fellow runners and five days/ 77 miles later finished at Dall Farm, Ardeonaig on the South Side of Loch Tay having raised  funds for Friends of the Beatson Charity.
Prominant amongst the runners for the first day were many fellow inveraray jogscotland runners giving support to Liz along the way. Garret, Fiona and Kerry took the first stage from Minard to Auchindrain. Kerry peeled off here leaving Fee, Alison and Jacs (on her first cross country run...and this is cross country in the true sense of the word....) to take the second stage and third stages. Garret and Fiona stayed the full distance with Rosie and Toby picking us up for the last 4 miles of what turned out to be a very hot run!! So well done all on supporting Liz (and well done Jacs on your longest run ....so far!!). Photos here.

End of session stuff and changes afoot!

Fantastic turn out for the end of session run last night although the rain also turned up albeit briefly. A variety of runs and distances were on offer and most were taken advantage of . With the "no longer beginners" taking the anti clockwise route and the old hands going the other way we fully expected to meet Toby first on his way round clockwise but no, Matt, Rosie and Kerry hove into view with Toby a little way behind having discovered that texting/facebook+running= taking a wrong turn.....He soon corrected the running order and we all turned to continue in the return direction....alas the GPS never lies and shows how we cut a corner on the way home......I hope that everyone enjoyed the evening as much as I did...Thank you very much for my presents. The beautiful Border Collie tile in proudly in place as from 8am this morning, the wine is still intact and the flowers are beautiful. I shall look forward to spending my token having refused this am to let Garret use it to buy compost.....
Then it was my turn to thank you all which I think I managed very inadequately but you all know how much you have supported, teased, sympathised, encouraged and listened over the weeks so THANK YOU!!
Awards...Toby presented medals to Penny, Janice and Jillian for all their hard work both at home and on a Thursday night. Keep on running girls!!
Fiona was given the "Most Miles" Award and Janet in her absence the "Most Improved". Rosie, Linda and Alison are all "Going for a Challenge" this year with Rosie facing her first sprint triathlon soon and Linda and Alison take on a half marathon each in September...this is what the group is about and it is great to see you all taking on the miles! Penny is also going for it with a 10k also in September. Kerry and Liz both have supported the group when I have been unable to run recently and for this I thank them very much more than the "Special Award" could show really. Ditto for Jacs who has been a very motivating and helpful member of both groups encouraging the beginners group to continue and also supporting Toby when he was leading the group in my absence. Finally Very Special thanks went to Toby for leading and planning the sessions for the beginners...he approached this with trepidation but has been a great jogscotland leader taking his responsibilities very seriously. We also discussed the merging of the two groups and summer plans. It was decided that a different person will take responsibility for planning a run each Tuesday mainly out with Inveraray in the area from the Dhub Loch to Ardcastle to give wider scope of run. The person leading the run (Kerry is next Tuesday) will keep all informed through Face book (everyone except Jacs who will need to be texted...apply to me for number!) Kerry is planning an event yet to be confirmed in Furnace probably on the last Tuesday before the schools return. It was also decided to move the day of the running group to Thursday night 7-8pm as a trial from the start of the Autumn term until October to avoid a clash with Zumba. Any feedback on the above will be very welcome!
