Jingling all the way home.

A fantastic turnout for the Jingle Bells run yesterday with runners and walkers  from the Ormsary and Mid Argyll groups joining us for a run, a chat and some festive fodder. Many thanks to all who came and bought contributions. Now the results.....
Toby put in a fantastic time of 29 minutes to come in first overall and first male junior in hill race which was thankfully snow free. Dave was followed him over the finish line in a time of 33.43, a great time on an unfamiliar course with haphazard sign-age and was promptly given the job of time keeper. A little bit of position jostling went on in the final stages with first females Naomi and Rebecc coming in together with Matt 41.18 closely followed by Freya first junior female and Garret in 41.25. Fee and Jacky came next in 47.22, followed by Fiona in 50.10. With Alison keeping Linda company on her way back from the coastal route in 51.51 the hill runners were all home in under the hour. A smaller field set out for the coastal route but nonetheless competitive wuth Rosie leading the way on familiar ground to finish in 44.10 as first overall and female junior winner, Simone was on her heels at 44.55. An absolutley heroic run from Ben with coach Dinah in under the hour 59.30 and some good chat along the way. A great run from Tilly and Mum Janet too, she is going to catch you soon Janet!.

Hill route
Freya 41.25

Liz and I ran the route today and it is oh so pretty!! It will hopefully be okay on Sunday but as a contingency plane we will run it as early as possible and leave an update here and on facebook . At present the snow is soft and there are quite wet patches so please bring a change of footwear.

Jingle Bells Run December 11th at 11am

Informal Jingle Bells run around Clunary....Two routes:- One a two mile out and two mile back (if you dont want to do the four miles you can turn at any point and retrace your steps), the other one is a round route 4.5 miles with a stiffish (400ft or so) climb at the start but then it is mainly downhill with a great view. Walkers/hangers on welcome. There will be some signs at main junctions...and folk to run with. Soup and Mince pies at Claonairigh afterwards. Please let me know if you are coming for planning reasons!! As always no insurance and certainly no marshals. £1 donation for the soup etc. festively themed attire i.e. bells encouraged but not essential.

The Four and a half mile route..goes anti clockwise from the start. The shorter flatter route goes clockwise from the start to almost the point where the track leaves the loch-side. The start point is top left hand pointy bit

And we thought last week was lousy weather.....

Much respect to all who came tonight...(and there was an impressive number)  braving the wind and rain yet again...The castle grounds warm up was more like a river run but we all survived the weather and some interesting driving manoeuvres/ lamp post rage (you had to be there) during some hill work, some circuits and some lamp posts. Note for diaries....The last session of the Christmas term will be on TUESDAY December 20th .Usual running nonsense followed by a wee visit to The George. Jingle Bells run is 11th December and I promise I shall set the route before next week...honest.

Magnificent effort from the Magnificent Seven

Through lashing rain and howling winds we splashed our way through 100m-400m sprints last night. However we were still smiling and smug with the effort of a good work out. Thanks for turning out. Jingle Bells run 12th December. More info soon. Big thank you to everyone who supported the Glow in the Dark run. Nearly £500 raised so thank you one and all.

Hard core runners

Great to see a good turn out on what could not in any way be described as a nice evening... Until the end when the moon shone on Kerry's excellent drill session. Thanks Kerry. Between the driving and torrential rain showers we did a really decent warm up ( we needed it) christening Kerry's new trainers nicely... Sorry about that. The hill training was a delight I am sure you all found (PS the lights are now back on...there's service for you!!) . Then the drills so a good session. Good luck to all Tin Farm 5ers on Sunday. Now that really will christen any new trainers!! Will post last nights route as soon as I have edited it to delete the car journey home as I forgot to switch off. A reminder for the Glow in The Dark run next Friday...meeting as usual on Thursday and then meeting at 1800, or preferably 10 minutes earlier at the school on Friday...my hair gel has arrived so be ready to be amazed!!
Other events...Linda is doing a charity challenge for Marie Curie Cancer care:-

The  Etape Caledonia charity cycle race. This event starts at Pitlochry, goes for a wee loop around Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch and then up the side of Schiehallion before returning to Pitlochry. A mere 80 + miles!  What a woman!!

Many thanks to all for their congratulations on the award at the weekend. It was a wonderful evening that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was great to meet the jogscotland folk and have a chat.... And we know how I like chatting. Oh, and great to get an award for doing what I love, running and chatting. You have kept ME supported, motivated and focused all year and and I thank you for it!

Members take part in Mid Argyll Triathlon

Toby, Rosie, Liz, Garret and Fee took part in this local event last Sunday. The weather was lousy but spirits high for the 10th anniversary event. With all of us in different heats except Liz and Fee it was difficult to keep track! Rosie was first away from the pool but unfortunately had a fall from her bike within about a mile or so, she was patched up and amazingly set out again to complete the cycle amongst much admiration, very cold and tired by then she withdrew from the run. Toby despite being baulked in the swim put in a great performance with a time of 1:16:39, definitely beating his Dad this year who did a stalwart time of 1:22:42. Liz was the star of the day coming in at 1:27:07 and scooting third female veteran, second Mid Argyll female finisher and fastest T2 transition of 16s!! Fee was over the line in 1:31;02 and happy to be home! Well done all!

Last nights session was a good one with a new 4 minute killer session that will be reappearing and some Squats, Skips and Steps...ahhhh the winter is here!! I shall not be here for the next three Thursdays but the group will be meeting as usual. No time to relax yet...Below is a message from Kirsty re The Tin Farm Five

Achnamara 10k

The pre flurries of Hurricane Irene could certainly be felt as we headed our way down to Achnamara for this local fund raiser! However the rain did clear after a short sharp shower on the way to the start line and stayed away almost until the end...the wind on the other hand was certainly an issue especially after the 7k mark!

A reminder that the new session starts next week on a THURSDAY and all are welcome whatever level!! Kisten, Rosie, Fiona and I had a lovely run around and about at Ardcastle last night and only got a little bit muddy........If anyone is looking for running buddies to help them along the way either on those longer training runs or as a bit of motivation don't forget to post on facebook, or if you don't have it ask me and I will do it for you.

Run out of Claonairigh

Great to be back and running with you again. The run out last night was from Claonairigh with a very steep start indeed. The views were good though from the top and the chat even better. Well done Janice, Rosie, Linda, Fee, Alison and Jacs. Next week we are planning on the Dubh Loch (Black Loch) circular route (? aprox 3 miles) so will meet there at 7pm. Friends of The Beatson Run

Well, runner extraordinaire Liz set off last Saturday, with fabulous support from friends, family and fellow runners and five days/ 77 miles later finished at Dall Farm, Ardeonaig on the South Side of Loch Tay having raised  funds for Friends of the Beatson Charity.
Prominant amongst the runners for the first day were many fellow inveraray jogscotland runners giving support to Liz along the way. Garret, Fiona and Kerry took the first stage from Minard to Auchindrain. Kerry peeled off here leaving Fee, Alison and Jacs (on her first cross country run...and this is cross country in the true sense of the word....) to take the second stage and third stages. Garret and Fiona stayed the full distance with Rosie and Toby picking us up for the last 4 miles of what turned out to be a very hot run!! So well done all on supporting Liz (and well done Jacs on your longest run ....so far!!). Photos here.

Friday 1 July 2011

End of session stuff and changes afoot!

Fantastic turn out for the end of session run last night although the rain also turned up albeit briefly. A variety of runs and distances were on offer and most were taken advantage of . With the "no longer beginners" taking the anti clockwise route and the old hands going the other way we fully expected to meet Toby first on his way round clockwise but no, Matt, Rosie and Kerry hove into view with Toby a little way behind having discovered that texting/facebook+running= taking a wrong turn.....He soon corrected the running order and we all turned to continue in the return direction....alas the GPS never lies and shows how we cut a corner on the way home......I hope that everyone enjoyed the evening as much as I did...Thank you very much for my presents. The beautiful Border Collie tile in proudly in place as from 8am this morning, the wine is still intact and the flowers are beautiful. I shall look forward to spending my token having refused this am to let Garret use it to buy compost.....
Then it was my turn to thank you all which I think I managed very inadequately but you all know how much you have supported, teased, sympathised, encouraged and listened over the weeks so THANK YOU!!
Awards...Toby presented medals to Penny, Janice and Jillian for all their hard work both at home and on a Thursday night. Keep on running girls!!
Fiona was given the "Most Miles" Award and Janet in her absence the "Most Improved". Rosie, Linda and Alison are all "Going for a Challenge" this year with Rosie facing her first sprint triathlon soon and Linda and Alison take on a half marathon each in September...this is what the group is about and it is great to see you all taking on the miles! Penny is also going for it with a 10k also in September. Kerry and Liz both have supported the group when I have been unable to run recently and for this I thank them very much more than the "Special Award" could show really. Ditto for Jacs who has been a very motivating and helpful member of both groups encouraging the beginners group to continue and also supporting Toby when he was leading the group in my absence. Finally Very Special thanks went to Toby for leading and planning the sessions for the beginners...he approached this with trepidation but has been a great jogscotland leader taking his responsibilities very seriously. We also discussed the merging of the two groups and summer plans. It was decided that a different person will take responsibility for planning a run each Tuesday mainly out with Inveraray in the area from the Dhub Loch to Ardcastle to give wider scope of run. The person leading the run (Kerry is next Tuesday) will keep all informed through Face book (everyone except Jacs who will need to be texted...apply to me for number!) Kerry is planning an event yet to be confirmed in Furnace probably on the last Tuesday before the schools return. It was also decided to move the day of the running group to Thursday night 7-8pm as a trial from the start of the Autumn term until October to avoid a clash with Zumba. Any feedback on the above will be very welcome!
